New! Calendar View in QuickBooks 2012

What This Feature Does
 
Users can choose to view a calendar layout of a company's important transactions (invoice, billing, to-dos), as well as overdue transactions, tasks to be completed, as well as appointments.  Drill down into transactions from this screen or create To Do's (such as appts, which can now have a time of day specified).  Past due transactions are automatically flagged.

How To Access It

Access the Calendar from the Home screen or the Company menu.

Merging Accounts

Something that comes up from time to time is the need to eliminate duplicate General Ledger accounts. QuickBooks makes this process easy.

NOTE:  You can only merge accounts of the same type.  Also, please know that this process is irreversible.

Recording Prepayments For Inventory Purchases

  1. Set up a G/L account called "Prepaid Inventory."  The type of account should be "Bank."
  2. When the product is ordered enter a Purchase Order in QB Point of Sale.
  3. In QB Financial use the "Write Checks" or "Enter Credit Card Charges" window to record the payment.  Code to Prepaid Inventory.
  4. When the product is received, convert the PO to a Receiving Voucher in QBPOS.  Make sure to add the Bill Number on the voucher.  This will create a bill to be paid on the next Financial Exchange.
  5. In QB Financial go to the Pay Bills window and pay the b

Inventory Assembly Build Enhancements

Inventory Assemblies are used for entering a bill of material to detail the components which are required to build a finished good or a sub-assembly.

The advantage of this method over groups is that the individual components are actually removed from your inventory and the associated costs are rolled up into the finished good or sub-assembly. This feature is available in QuickBooks Premier and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions.

However, QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions has two additional features related to the inventory assembly items:

Increase Multi-User Performance

As your data file grows larger some reports and processes may begin to run slower. One way to make QuickBooks more efficient is to set user preferences to clear all open windows each time you exit QuickBooks.

To change the default setting for each user go to
 
EDIT>PREFERENCES>DESKTOP VIEW and check the radio button that reads "Don't save the desktop"
